At the time that I wrote the song, "Shadow of a Mountain," I had very little personal connection to the lyrics or the idea I was trying to get across. I sort of just imagined standing in the foothills of a peak readying yourself to summit. I thought of the shadow cast by the mountain as a metaphor to the daunting challenges of the climb that loom ahead. I thought of having to face the fears of missing your step or losing your way as you navigate through uncharted wilderness. I thought to myself... this will make for a tune!

Songs are interesting in the way they have a tendency to change meaning for the listener over time. It seems to work the same with the song writer. "Shadow of a Mountain" was a tune I had to grow into as well as grow out of.
